About this PDF rotation tool
Rotating a PDF changes the orientation stored in the file itself, so the correction sticks for anyone who opens it. That is different from turning a page inside a PDF reader, which only affects your own screen.
Scanners and phone cameras are the usual culprits: one sheet goes in the wrong way round and the finished document has a single page lying on its side.
Why pages end up the wrong way round
Scanners and multifunction printers
A sheet fed in the wrong way, or a scanner set to landscape for a portrait page, produces a PDF that opens sideways even though the paper was straight.
Phone scans and camera shots
Phone scanning apps guess orientation from how the device was held. Photograph a document flat on a desk and the guess is often ninety degrees out.
Mixed documents
A report with a wide table or chart inserted as a landscape page frequently arrives with that one page rotated while the rest is upright.
Rotation that was never saved
Turning a page in a PDF reader usually only changes the view. Close the file and it is sideways again for the next person — saving the rotation into the file is what fixes it permanently.
How to rotate PDF pages
- 1
Open your PDF
Select the file or drop it on the upload area. A thumbnail of every page appears so you can see which ones are wrong.
- 2
Pick the pages and the angle
Tap the pages you want to turn, or select them all, then choose 90°, 180° or 270°. The previews rotate immediately.
- 3
Save the corrected file
Apply the rotation and download the PDF. Pages you did not select are left exactly as they were.
What it is useful for
Fix crooked scans
Straighten out the one sheet that went through the scanner the wrong way round.
Readable on any device
A correctly oriented PDF reads properly on a phone, where rotating manually is fiddly.
Better printing
Pages come out of the printer the right way up instead of needing manual tray tricks.
Tidy before merging
Correct orientation first, then combine everything into one consistent document.
Common use cases
Correct a sideways phone scan
Turn pages captured in landscape so recipients can read them without rotating their screens.
Fix an upside-down duplex batch
Select every inverted back page and apply a 180° correction in one pass.
Prepare mixed pages for merging
Straighten certificates and scans before joining them into a consistent application packet.
Make a document print correctly
Save the intended orientation into the PDF so readers and printers no longer rely on a temporary view setting.
Practical examples
A contract scanned upside down
Every page came out at 180°. Rotate all pages twice by 90°, or once by 180°, check the thumbnails read correctly, and download. The signature pages stay exactly as scanned — only the orientation changes.
One landscape table in a report
Pages 1 to 11 are fine and page 12 is on its side. Select only page 12, turn it 90°, and leave the rest untouched. The mixed orientations survive the download.
Alternating pages from a duplex scanner
Back sides came out inverted. Tick the even pages, rotate them 180°, and the whole document reads in one direction. Doing it here is quicker than rescanning the stack.
Rotation happens on your machine
The PDF is read into the browser, the page previews are drawn locally, and the rotated file is written locally too. Nothing is transmitted to a server at any point.
Closing or reloading the tab discards the file entirely.
What rotating does to the file
Previewing the pages
Thumbnails are rendered in your browser so you can see what is actually crooked. Previews are generated for the first 60 pages to keep long documents responsive, and rotation applies to whichever pages you select.
Applying the turn
Each page carries an orientation value inside the PDF, and rotating updates that value. The page content itself is not redrawn or re-encoded, so text stays selectable and images keep their exact resolution — the file size barely changes.
Saving the result
The updated document is written in memory and downloaded. Because the orientation is stored in the file, every reader, printer and portal now shows the pages the right way up, not just the one you fixed them in.
Devices and browsers
Rotation works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile, and files up to 100 MB are accepted.
Generating thumbnails is the heaviest part on a phone, which is why previews stop at 60 pages. The rotation itself is inexpensive even for very long documents, since nothing on the page is re-rendered.
Tips for best results
Use the thumbnails as your check
Rotate a selected group and scan every preview before downloading; different pages can receive different turns.
Understand the angles
90° turns clockwise, 180° flips upside down, and 270° turns counter-clockwise.
Correct orientation before other edits
Rotate first, then merge, number or compress so later previews reflect the final reading direction.
Unlock unreadable files
A damaged or password-protected PDF may not open. Save an unlocked copy in a trusted reader and try that version.
Rotate PDF questions
Does rotating reduce quality?
- No. Only the orientation flag of each page changes; the page content is untouched, so text stays sharp and selectable.
Can I rotate different pages by different amounts?
- Yes. Select a group of pages, apply an angle, then select another group and apply a different one before downloading.
What is the difference between 90° and 270°?
- 90° turns the page clockwise, 270° turns it counter-clockwise. Use the previews to see which one you need.
How many pages can I preview?
- Previews are generated for the first 60 pages, while the rotation itself applies to whichever pages you select.
My PDF will not open here.
- Password-protected or damaged files cannot be read. Remove the password in your PDF reader and try again.
Is PDF rotation free?
- Yes. You can rotate and download without payment.
Do I need an account?
- No sign-up or email address is required.
Is my file uploaded?
- No. Page previews and orientation changes are produced in your browser.
What is the maximum file size?
- Files up to 100 MB are accepted, with previews for the first 60 pages.
Does it work on mobile?
- Yes. Tap thumbnails to select pages and use the angle controls just as you would on desktop.
Is a watermark added?
- No. Rotation changes page orientation only.
What happens after the tab closes?
- The selected PDF, thumbnails and generated result are removed from browser memory.
